Elderberries are full of benefits!

Elderberry is an ancient little berry that has been around for centuries. It is an immune modulator that can help support healthy immune function. It is an excellent source of vitamin A & C, iron, and potassium. Is rich in quercetin, promotes heart and lung health, and so much more. We take it daily year-round to help support our immune systems and to stay healthy. Some people only take it in the winter or during illness. Whatever works best for you and your family, elderberry will provide its wonderful benefits no matter how often you take it. While most people can safely take elderberry regularly, if you suffer from an autoimmune disorder or other chronic inflammation that may or may not be the case for you.
As with everything, we are all individuals and there is no one size fits all. Anyone who suffers from chronic inflammation knows that what triggers me may not trigger you. For example, I can’t have night shades but can have eggs, while someone else might be able to have night shades but not eggs, and so, it is with elderberry. I can take it daily without issue but others who suffer from inflammation may not be able to. If you suffer with inflammation but want to give regular elderberry use a try, then start slow, keep an eye out for worsening symptoms, and see how it goes. In some cases, it may actually help reduce inflammation!

Real People Real Results

I mentioned previously that in our home we take elderberry daily.  And let me tell you in those busy seasons when we neglect taking it or I don’t get around to making a new batch right away we can feel the difference!  Something just feels off if we go long periods without taking it and we are more likely to get sick. When illness does strike and I’m diligent in giving elderberry to every frequently we are often over the sickness a lot faster than those times when I’m not as diligent in giving it. I know of many others who experience similar results as we do, elderberries really are amazing at supporting our immune system and keeping us healthy.

Quality Matters

Now before you run out to the store and buy just any elderberry syrup it’s important to note that many of them a full of less-than-ideal ingredients. Food dyes, artificial flavors, preservatives and more that are harmful to our health and should not be consumed. Thankfully there are better, less toxic alternatives like making your own. Not only is making your own elderberry syrup super easy to do it’s actually very cost effective. Check out my recipe here. Not into making it yourself? Not to worry there are other options besides that. Check out this elderberry elixir from Earthley Wellness. An additional option would be to find someone local that sells their homemade elderberry syrup at the farmer’s market.
